Design lead, after the review: "We are going with the new order page layout. I know you had concerns, but the decision is made. Can you lead the build?"

The trap — the move that looks right

Committing verbally and then building your preferred layout behind a flag "just to compare". It looks like diligence, but it tells design you did not accept the decision, splits the team's effort, and any result from the comparison will be read as you trying to win the argument.
