Your team shipped "save cart across devices" last quarter, on time and without incidents. How do you know whether it was worth it?

Answer it out loud before you open anything. The value of the flags below is in comparing them to what you actually said.

The situation behind the question

The feature took one engineer about six weeks. The quarterly review slide lists it as "Delivered". Nobody defined success before it started, and the manager now asks each engineer to present one thing they shipped and its impact.

What it is really testing

Whether the candidate separates output from outcome, and whether they can reason honestly after the fact when nobody set a metric up front. Most engineers can say it shipped; fewer can say what it was supposed to change, and fewer still will say "we do not know, and here is how we find out".
